Dr. Chandan Sastry joined the NIH Office of Intramural Research (OIR) in 2017 as the Director of Clinical Informatics. In this capacity, he works with Institutes and research staff to optimize the information technology environment for clinical and translational laboratories within the Intramural Research Program.

Chandan has twenty-five years of experience leading technology and strategic management projects to support scientific organizations. This includes IT leadership, software requirements and development, data warehousing, electronic data exchange, and biovisualization.

Prior to joining the OIR, Chandan directed the development of the Clinical Trials Database (CTDB), which supports 10 NIH Institutes and over 500 protocols. He also served as the Chief Information Officer for the National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). He is currently supporting the single NIH IRB reorganization initiative to unify all IRB systems, processes, and staff.

During his 15 years at NIH, Chandan was awarded the NIH Director’s Award (2018), Honor Award (NIDDK – 2016, NIH OD – 2012), NIH Award of Merit (2010), Collaboration Award (NICHD – 2012, 2013), and the Team Excellence Award (NICHD – 2009).
