Pulmonary Vascular Diseases Scientific Interest Group

The mission of the Pulmonary Vascular Diseases (PVD) Scientific Interest Group (SIG) is closely aligned to and supportive of the overall National Institutes of Health (NIH) mission – to foster creative discoveries through collaborative and innovative research strategies and to expand the disease knowledge base through information exchange among communities of interest. The PVD SIG aims to promote constructive collaboration and knowledge-sharing between scientists across the NIH with an interest in PVD. The PVD SIG will serve as a forum to articulate current needs, discuss future trends, solve potential barriers, and find new opportunities for collaborative NIH PVD research. The group also strives to provide mentoring to trainees interested in PVD on a peer-to-peer basis, to encourage their professional development. Specific objectives to guide the PVD SIG include the following:

Objective 1: Improve comprehensive PVD care at the CC and augment the visibility of NIH within the national and international PVD community to enhance NIH protocol recruitment.

Objective 2: Increase opportunities for multidisciplinary trans – NIH research collaborations and improve resource utilization among the intramural groups studying PVD

Objective 3: To serve as a venue through which productive scientific collaborations can be fostered with external stakeholders.

The PVD SIG meets approximately once every quarter. In addition, the PVS SIG hopes to sponsor symposiums that bring in external stakeholders from across the region. The meetings can include a combination of lectures, seminars, panel discussions, journal discussions, poster sessions and additional opportunities that facilitate networking.
