Jessica Chertow, Ph.D.
Dr. Jessica Chertow joined in the National Heart, Lung and Blood (NHLBI) Office of Scientific Director (OSD) in 2015 and was promoted to Deputy Scientific Director in 2018. In her role as Deputy Director, Jessica oversees the administration of the annual Board of Scientific Counselors’ meetings and manages the centrally-funded Core facilities in NHLBI. Additionally, Jessica oversees the tenure process and works closely with the NHLBI Promotion and Tenure Committee (PTC) to assure the tenure track investigators are moving forward. Jessica helped develop the administrative Branch Chief and Center Director review process in NHLBI and has completed two pilot reviews as of 2020. Jessica joined the Office of Intramural Research (OIR) as a Senior Advisor to Dr. Michael Gottesman in 2020 and is currently working on several projects including serving as co-Chair on the Guest Researcher and Special Volunteer Policy Committee.
Dr. Chertow earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Colorado in Boulder, and her doctorate in microbiology and biosciences from George Mason University. She completed postdoctoral training at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in the Laboratory of Malaria and Vector Research (LMVR) studying the vascular pathobiology of malaria. Jessica was accepted to the Executive MBA program at the Kellogg School of Business, Northwestern University in January 2021.
